The first time we shot from the cart
Melanie had a broken arm and could not ride, how ever she could shoot.
The cart provided her a way to shoot even though she could not ride.
That
was at the Tehachapi shoot in 2000.

This
new shooter laughed through the entire course, not sure if she was
having
fun or she was scared of Jenny the Mules lightning speed.

Jerry
Gold driving Mickey Michel (Pasquel Benito) Tehachapi 1999
We
are not the first to shoot from a cart. Jerry Tarantino helped a Dorine
Mais do it at Pomona a few years ago with her Mini Burro, Chance. The
crowd
went wild.
Then
Jerry Gold drove and Mickey Michel shot at Tehachapi last year much
faster
but still a real crowd pleaser.
This
year I have been able to drive for three injured riders, giving them a
chance to still shoot, and a new shooter whose horse was not ready yet.

Several other people
have shown interest,
in fact Billy Wisewolf, built his own
cart and shot from it at the event we had at Hansen Dam. Billy was
injured
at the time so he could not ride. Wow were they fast, his wife drove
for
him.

| That
makes four people that have been able to shoot even though they could
not
ride due to injury. I think that cart shooting could open up our sport
to many people that can not ride, due to injury or a "handicap" if you
can get them from the wheel chair or crutches to the cart they can
shoot.
I
shoot from a cart because of my size at 6'6" almost 300 lbs. it would
take
a draft horse to carry me. But almost any horse/mule can pull me in a
cart.
Personally I like driving more than shooting.

To
be able to take someone out on the course, and give them a chance to
play
the game is more fun than I can describe. Hopefully, some day there
will
be a Class for carts. Until then we shall continue to do it as a "Fun
only"
activity.
These pictures are of Melanie at Pismo
Beach Bash showing how proficient she has become at driving and
shooting by herself - this is called Pioneer Cart Shooting.

I
do not think that cart shooting will ever be as big as Mounted
Shooting,
however, it seems to be fun for the shooters and the crowds. Nothing
wrong with a little fun.
